Summer in Crete

In August 2022, me and my friends booked a trip to Crete in Greece, there was 5 of us so we splashed out and booked a really nice Air BnB.

After the busyness of the Germany trip, it was so nice to go away with friends and be able to just relax more. It was right on the edge of the coast so it was only a 5 minute walk to the beach which was amazing.

Travelling with a group of people is so much different than when you’re by yourself. On you’re own, you dont have to think about anyone so you can just do whatever you feel like, eat wherever you want etc. In the group, everyone has their own things they want to do so we all have to comprise with each other so everyone can get the most out of their holiday.

One of our friends wanted to go and visit these ruins of The Palace of Knossos, so that was the first thing on the list. The place is absolutely massive and it was very impressive. We did go right in the middle of summer and it was very hot so I’d definitely recommend visiting when it’s cooler. It’s a huge open space where the ruins are so there’s no shade! It’s worth a visit though as long as you’re prepared.

It’s up in the hills aswell so you get some really nice views while you’re there aswell! Two of our other friends wanted to go on a hike, so that was the next thing on our list. We’d rented a car so we could drive across the island, through the mountains and we found a really nice spot for a hike.

On the other side of the hike, we came across this absolutely beautiful beach so we had to go in for a swim. It was very much needed!

We went to a restaurant by the beach and then we took a boat trip back to the car.

The main thing me and another of our friends was looking forward to, was a day on the beach. Just a nice relaxing day. We split up for this one, the guys went for a hike and the girls had a beach day, and then we met up again for food in the evening.

Each night, we went to a different restaurant for food. However, there was one night we’d booked an activity that came as an option to add on to the air bnb, a wine tasting night! The guy came round to the villa with all these different types of wine and he had a chef with him aswell. They made all this food to go with each wine and we had to describe all the tastes, he then described what they were and why they go so well with the different foods we had. It was really fun for a group activity, they were both very friendly and funny, they left all the wine with us aswell. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re looking for something different to try!

Overall, it was a really fun trip and just nice to get away for a more relaxing holiday with my closest friends. Solo travelling is fun but you do have to be switched on all the time so it does take it out of you by the end, so it was nice to be able to take a back seat and not have to be in control of everything. We spent the whole week together so on the last day, we just decided if there was anything left we still wanted to do, we all just went off and did our own things. I went back to the beach to do some snorkelling and sit on the beach, so I still was still able to enjoy some alone time there before we left.

If you’re interested in the Air BnB we stayed in, here’s the link! The hosts were incredible, they were there to greet us when we arrived and came back to say goodbye and gave us some raki to take back with us! The wine tasting was an option that we decided to book aswell so if you’re interested in that, they have other little adds on to make your stay even nicer!

Thanks for reading/watching. Hope you enjoyed it!
