A heatwave in Brussels & Antwerp

Summer 2023 ended with a trip to Belgium. I got tickets to see Blink 182 in Antwerp, so we decided to make a trip of it. We flew to Brussels, with the intention of getting the train to Antwerp later on, and it ended up being the most intense heatwave there!

We only spent a couple of hours in Brussels in the end because it was too hot to be walking around, so we headed to Antwerp earlier so that we could freshen up in our Air BnB. Not before we got some waffles though!

We were happy to arrive in Antwerp, we had a couple of nights there so we could get settled. Our AirBnB was a townhouse, and although it was really nice, it was not ideal for a heatwave. We were on the top floor and there was no air conditioning, and we couldn’t open the windows without a ton of mosquitoes getting in! We did get eaten alive in there so I’d definitely recommend getting a hotel instead if you’re coming in the summer! Shame though, it was such a nice place!

Antwerp itself was beautiful! We enjoyed it a lot more, it has a cool vibe about it and it reminded me a lot of Frankfurt, whereas Belgium reminded me more of Paris.

There was lots to do in Antwerp, we found a market that did slushies, absolutely much needed in that heat. There was also a castle there which took us by surprise so that was fun to be able to go up to the roof.

We also went to the oldest pub in Antwerp!

Overall, we absolutely loved Antwerp but we definitely come when it’s much cooler next time! We were mostly there for Blink 182 though so we had no regrets and they did not disappoint! I’d love to come back and explore Brussels properly sometime aswell so it’s absolutely on my list! We did get a really lovely sunset on our last night to round off the end of a great trip though!
